In 1998, the purchase of Yellow Rose, a picturesque ranch in La Barra, Punta del Este, by Corcho Rodriguez made waves in numerous publications. The property’s appeal wasn’t just its beautiful location, but also Rodriguez’s relationship with Susana Giménez, a prominent TV personality, which captured the public’s fascination. After parting ways with Giménez, Rodriguez set out to transform Yellow Rose into a place more open to public attention.
A striking sign now stands at the ranch’s wooden gateway on Camino del Cerro Eguzquiza towards San Carlos, proclaiming Yellow Rose as a top country property in the area. Efforts to make the estate more accessible have led to the establishment of a polo club and a winery. Rodriguez celebrated these new ventures by organizing a grand barbecue at Yellow Rose, featuring an anonymous house wine that quickly became the talk of the event.
This unbranded wine, shared among guests, piqued interest and garnered praise, especially from celebrities like Adolfo Cambiaso Sr. and Eduardo Costantini, who were keen to know where they could purchase it. Hosted alongside Verónica Lozano, the evening was a festive gathering under the stars, filled with lively music, a warm, family-like atmosphere, and friendly socializing.
Rodriguez’s foray into winemaking at Yellow Rose is a testament to his passion for the craft and commitment to quality. After dedicating seven years to testing soil and selecting grapes, with a fondness for the rich yet delicate pinot noir, Rodriguez set high standards influenced by the revered Romanée Conti. The first batch in 2011 was limited to a thousand bottles, prioritizing quality and leading to periods of non-production due to less-than-ideal grape conditions. The vineyard now anticipates producing 5,000 bottles.
Covering four hectares with Burgundy, France, grapevines, the vineyard employs a low-intervention, near-natural farming approach, avoiding excessive chemical use. Although it’s not officially organic, Rodriguez’s method favors a more authentic growth process, reflecting his deep engagement with and enjoyment of winemaking.
Rodriguez plans to distribute the wine modestly, starting with friends and family, then gradually to select eateries, ensuring a unique availability through a dedicated request page and in esteemed locations globally.
In addition to his commitment to the vineyard and polo club, associated with the Polo Association of Uruguay, Rodriguez intends to release a book about Yellow Rose. It will detail his horse-related activities, the polo club’s achievements, and the country estate’s lifestyle, paired with the Yellow Rose wine, now labeled as “house wine,” to further establish the estate’s and its projects’ renown.
