Chicago Forecast: Windy conditions, summer-like temperatures ahead of evening storms

Get ready, Chicago-area residents, because this weekend is going to be a wild ride of weather. After a cooler end to the work week, we can expect strong winds and summer-like temperatures on Saturday, followed by storms moving in later in the day.

As we start our Saturday morning, temperatures are in the upper 60s and are expected to climb as high as the low 80s in some parts of the region. Along with the warmer temperatures, we can also expect some noticeable humidity. So, don’t forget to grab your sunscreen and stay hydrated as you head out for your weekend plans.

While the day is expected to stay mostly dry, we can’t ignore the gusty winds that will be prominent throughout the day. In fact, some areas may experience winds up to 40 miles per hour in the late morning to early afternoon. So, hold onto your hats and secure any loose items in your yard.

Despite the potential for some sunshine, isolated storms are expected to start impacting the region around 4 p.m. on Saturday. These storms may bring damaging winds and hail, so it’s important to stay alert and be prepared. However, the good news is that the primary threat for severe weather will be mainly west of the Fox River.

In addition to the possibility of severe weather, there is also a chance for minor flooding in some areas due to locally heavy rainfall. So, if you live in a flood-prone area, make sure to take necessary precautions and stay safe.

As we head into Saturday night, temperatures will drop to the low 60s. But don’t get too comfortable, because Sunday is expected to be even wetter across the region. While highs may still reach the upper 70s in some areas, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are possible. So, make sure to have your umbrella handy if you have any outdoor plans.

While we may be dealing with some unpredictable weather here in Chicago, we can count ourselves lucky compared to our neighbors in the Great Plains. On Saturday, there is a potential for a tornado outbreak in parts of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa. These areas are at a moderate or enhanced risk for severe weather, so let’s keep them in our thoughts and hope for their safety.
