The Chicago Air & Water Show is a highly anticipated event that takes place every summer in the beautiful city of Chicago. This year, the show will be held on August 10-11, a week earlier than usual, due to the city hosting the 2024 Democratic National Convention. The show, which is known as the “largest free admission event of its kind,” is set to be bigger and better than ever before.
One of the main highlights of this year’s show is the return of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. The Blue Angels, who did not perform at the show in 2023, are the oldest flight demonstration squadron in the U.S., having first flown in 1946. Their performances, which include skilled maneuvers, tight formations, and precision flying, never fail to impress the audience.
Another highly anticipated performance is by the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights. This elite team of parachutists from all branches of the U.S Army will showcase their skills and precision in a breathtaking display.
But the excitement doesn’t just stop there. The Chicago Air & Water Show will also feature a lineup of impressive military aircraft, including the U.S Navy F-35C and U.S Marine Corps F-35B, which are renowned for their advanced technology and maneuverability. The show will also include flyovers by the U.S Air Force C-17, KC-135, KC-46 Pegasus, B-1B, and the U.S Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin Search & Rescue (SAR).
In addition to the military performances, the show will also feature some thrilling civilian stunts. This year, the show welcomes new performers, such as RJ Gritter Decathlon Aerobatics, Trojan Phlyers – T-28 (2-ship), and Kevin Coleman Red Bull Aerobatic Pilot. These talented pilots will showcase their skills and entertain the audience with their daring stunts.
The Chicago Air & Water Show is not just a one-day event. In fact, those in Chicago can get a sneak peek of the performances ahead of the show. On Friday morning and afternoon, all of the show’s performers for Saturday and Sunday will fly the same show as a rehearsal. This is a great opportunity for the audience to witness the performances before the official show and get a behind-the-scenes look at the preparations.
Similar to the official show on Saturday and Sunday, the performances on Friday are scheduled to last from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, there will not be an announcer present for the rehearsal day. So, if you want to avoid the crowds and still catch the amazing performances, Friday is the perfect day to attend.
The Chicago Air & Water Show is not just about the thrilling performances. It is also a great opportunity for the audience to learn about the history and capabilities of these amazing aircraft and the brave men and women who fly them. The show is a celebration of aviation and a way to honor and appreciate the hard work and dedication of our military and first responders.
The show also aims to give back to the community. This year, the Chicago Air & Water Show has partnered with the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships to the families of fallen and disabled military and first responders. This is a great way to honor their sacrifice and educate their legacy. Since 2007, Folds of Honor has given out 51,000 scholarships worth nearly $240 million.
In addition to the official show, the Chicago Air & Water Show also offers a variety of food, drinks, and other activities for the whole family. From delicious food trucks to interactive exhibits, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
So mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable weekend at the Chicago Air & Water Show. With a spectacular lineup of performances, breathtaking stunts, and a chance to support a great cause, this year’s show is not to be missed. See you there!
