Event to Deliver the Certificate of the De-mined Section of the 400 KV Electricity Line from Huambo to Lubango

On June 7, 2024, a ceremony took place in the province of Huíla, particularly in the city of Lubango, to officially hand over the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line connecting Huambo and Lubango.

This important occasion was graced by the presence of Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, as well as the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos. Additionally, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, the African Development Bank’s representative for Angola and São Tomé, several officials from both ministries, and various invited guests were in attendance.

Following the certificate handover, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their commitment that made this event possible. He also shared insights on the overall importance of the occasion.

In response, Minister João Baptista Borges thanked Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade for his contributions, which contributed to the ceremony’s success. He emphasized the vital role of de-mining in advancing the project.

He further noted that the primary goal is to enhance energy capacity to satisfy the region’s needs. He praised the de-mining efforts for their significance to the energy sector and their essential contribution to the successful implementation of various electrification initiatives throughout the country.

João Baptista Borges also pointed out that this project, linking Huambo and Lubango, will create job opportunities for numerous young people, which he considers an important factor.

Additionally, a symbolic act of presenting a vehicle to the de-mining team on-site was carried out.

It is noteworthy that the construction of the 400 kV electricity transmission line between Huambo and Lubango will be divided into two segments, totaling a length of 343 km.
