Sheinbaum committed to continue ensuring the salaries and benefits of workers

Morena’s virtual presidential candidate, Claudia Sheinbaum, reaffirmed her commitment to protecting wages and employment benefits, stating that if workers prosper, so does Mexico.

For this reason, Sheinbaum called on the country’s workers to support her during her pre-campaign for the presidency, which will begin on November 20.

“Beyond a party alliance, it is unity with the people of Mexico that will allow us to move forward. (…) We cannot change course; the path is the Fourth Transformation,” she stated.

The Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation also highlighted the increase in the minimum wage in Mexico, which has improved under President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration.

The Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) expressed its support for Claudia Sheinbaum, pledging to form 10,000 Committees for the Defense of Labor Transformation in support of her candidacy.

It is worth mentioning that CATEM, led by Senator Pedro Haces Barba, comprises more than 1,194 union organizations distributed across the 32 states of the country.

During the organization’s Ordinary National Congress, held at Arena Ciudad de México, CATEM Secretary General Pedro Haces Barba committed to supporting the continuity of the Fourth Transformation, emphasizing that Mexico is at a critical juncture, and noting that “Mexico is now written with an ‘M’ for woman,” referring to his support for Claudia Sheinbaum and her career.

“We are experiencing important moments of definition, and that is why, from this Congress, alongside Doctor Claudia Sheinbaum, we reaffirm our commitment to the values of the Fourth Transformation,” he stressed.

Pedro Haces Barba recalled that, following the approval of the Labor Reform, the old disputes between employers were left behind, and thanks to everyone’s collaboration, a new unionism has begun that defends workers’ rights, respecting their wages and benefits.

Moreover, the senator and CATEM leader expressed his hope that, next year, employers will be mindful of workers’ situations and grant a good wage increase.

“Dear employers, I make a respectful call. We hope that this year you take the situation into account, Paco (Francisco Cervantes, president of the CCE), don’t turn away, and consider a good wage increase for all Mexicans,” he said.

He also highlighted the labor achievements made during the current administration, such as union freedom through voting for leaders, the elimination of outsourcing, the increase in profit-sharing, and the rise in the minimum wage.
