As part of the goals set by the Angolan government, as outlined in the National Development Plan (PDN), which aims to ensure access to electricity for the entire population and improve social conditions, the “Consignment Ceremony of the Mussulo Rural Electrification Project” took place on Friday, March 22. The event was led by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, in the presence of the Governor of Luanda Province, Manuel Homem, and other senior officials from the energy sector, the provincial government, and invited guests.
The contract was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ENDE, Hélder de Jesus Adão, and the main contractor of Marck Cables, Elisio Augusto. The project will cover the neighborhoods of Buraco, Ponta da Barra, Pior, Cambaxi, Mussulo Centro, Macoco, Farol das Palmeirinhas, and Tapo.
This project will benefit approximately 21,600 families and will include the installation of 26 transformers, 3,600 residential connections, and public lighting at 950 points, with the aim of improving the quality of life of residents.
It is noteworthy that with the implementation of the electricity grid, conditions will be created to promote tourism, develop the fishing sector, and reduce pollution by using clean energy sources.
During his speech, the minister emphasized that the electrification of Mussulo will help solve many of the problems faced by the population. He also mentioned that the President of the Republic directed that Mussulo should have access to electricity and that the project would be completed by the end of this year.
Regarding the water sector, João Baptista Borges assured that the supply issue would be resolved soon, with the installation of a pipeline from Ramiros. The Governor of the Province, Manuel Homem, called on the population to protect these public assets and report acts of vandalism.
After the ceremony, the officials visited the Mussulo market and the medical center. To conclude the activities in Mussulo, the Governor activated the switch for the connection of public lighting.
