Trans inmates face rape & death with Trump’s Executive Order

The fight for equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community has been a long and ongoing battle. And within this community, transgender individuals face an even greater struggle. Despite the progress that has been made in terms of legal rights and social acceptance, there are still many challenges that transgender individuals face on a daily basis. One of the most alarming and heartbreaking issues is the violence and discrimination that is inflicted upon them, leading to the loss of precious lives. It is time to address this pressing issue and recognize the value and humanity of transgender individuals.

Recently, I came across a quote that struck a chord within me. It read, “What you’re doing is sanctioning the death of transgender people… They are still human beings, and we should not be subjecting them to death because they do not conform to what our ideology of human beings should be.” These words were spoken by Dr. Rachel Levine, the first openly transgender federal official in the United States, during her confirmation hearing for Assistant Secretary of Health.

As I read these words, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of sadness and frustration. How is it possible that in this day and age, we are still witnessing the loss of innocent lives because of their gender identity? How can we as a society claim to be progressive and advanced when such violence and discrimination continue to exist? It is time to acknowledge and recognize the gravity of this issue and take action to protect and uplift the transgender community.

First and foremost, we must understand that transgender individuals are not a threat to our society. They are not seeking to harm or disrupt anyone’s life. They are simply trying to live their truth and be true to themselves. Transgender individuals should not have to fear for their safety or feel the need to hide their true selves. They should be able to express their gender identity freely and without judgment or discrimination.

Moreover, we must recognize that transgender individuals are human beings, just like you and me. They have the same hopes, dreams, and aspirations. They laugh, they cry, and they feel pain just like everyone else. Yet, because of their gender identity, they are subjected to violence, discrimination, and even death. This is a blatant violation of their human rights, and it is our duty as a society to protect and defend these rights for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity.

It is also crucial to acknowledge that the violence and discrimination against transgender individuals are not isolated incidents. It is a systemic issue that is deeply rooted in our society’s perception of gender and the traditional binary notion of male and female. This rigid and narrow definition of gender has created a hostile and unsafe environment for transgender individuals, making them vulnerable to violence and discrimination. It is time to break away from these societal norms and embrace diversity and inclusivity.

We must also recognize our responsibility as individuals in creating a safe and inclusive society for transgender individuals. It starts with educating ourselves and understanding the struggles and challenges that transgender individuals face. We must also speak up and call out any acts of violence or discrimination that we witness. Silence only perpetuates these harmful actions.

Furthermore, it is the responsibility of governments and policymakers to enact laws and policies that protect the rights of transgender individuals. These laws should not only focus on preventing violence and discrimination but also provide support and resources for the transgender community. It is also essential to promote education and awareness programs to break the stigma and stereotypes surrounding transgender individuals.

In conclusion, the words spoken by Dr. Rachel Levine are a powerful reminder of the urgency to address the violence and discrimination against transgender individuals. We must recognize the value and humanity of transgender individuals and take a stand against any form of violence and discrimination. Let us work together to create a safe and inclusive society where all individuals, regardless of their gender identity, are treated with dignity and respect. Let us be the change that we wish to see in the world.
