DA accuses Nkabane of evading responsibility

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training has announced that the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Naledi Pandor, will not be appearing before the committee today as scheduled.

The committee, chaired by Ms. Connie September, expressed disappointment at the Minister’s absence and stated that she was expected to provide an update on various issues related to higher education and training.

According to the committee, the Minister was invited to discuss the progress made in implementing the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry into Higher Education and Training, commonly known as the Fees Commission. The committee also wanted to hear the Minister’s plans for addressing the ongoing challenges faced by universities, such as student protests and financial constraints.

However, the committee has assured the public that this delay will not hinder their efforts to ensure that the higher education and training sector is functioning effectively and efficiently.

“We understand that the Minister has a busy schedule and we respect that. We will continue to engage with her and her department to ensure that the issues at hand are addressed,” said Ms. September.

The committee has also emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the higher education sector, and has urged the Minister to keep the committee informed of any developments and progress made in this regard.

“We are committed to ensuring that the higher education and training sector is accessible and affordable for all South Africans. It is crucial that we have open and honest communication with the Minister and her department in order to achieve this goal,” added Ms. September.

The committee has also encouraged the Minister to engage with stakeholders, such as student organizations and university management, to find solutions to the current challenges facing the higher education sector.

“We believe that working together with all stakeholders is the key to finding sustainable solutions. We urge the Minister to continue engaging with all parties involved in order to find a way forward,” said Ms. September.

The committee has also emphasized the need for the Minister to prioritize the implementation of the recommendations made by the Fees Commission, in order to address the issues of access and affordability in higher education.

“We are confident that the Minister is committed to improving the higher education sector and we look forward to her appearance before the committee in the near future,” concluded Ms. September.

In conclusion, while the Minister’s absence may have caused a delay in the committee’s work, the committee remains positive and determined to address the challenges facing the higher education and training sector. The committee is confident that the Minister will continue to work towards finding solutions and improving the sector for the benefit of all South Africans.
