The state of the free press in the US is… not good

In the United States of America, the state of the free press is not good. As we enter the Year of Our Lord 2025, it is clear that the press is under attack. But what many fail to realize is that this attack is not just on the press, it is an attack on the people. The powers that be are trying to disempower us, the citizens of this great nation, by silencing the free press.

The free press has always been a cornerstone of democracy. It is the watchdog that keeps those in power in check and ensures that the truth is brought to light. But in recent years, we have seen a disturbing trend of attacks on the press. From labeling them as “fake news” to restricting their access to information, the press has been under constant assault.

But why is this happening? Why are those in power so afraid of a free press? The answer is simple: they fear the truth. They fear that the people will become aware of their actions and hold them accountable. And so, they try to discredit and silence the press in order to maintain their hold on power.

But we cannot let them succeed. We cannot allow the free press to be disempowered. Because when the press is silenced, the people are silenced. Our voices are silenced. Our right to know the truth is taken away.

We must remember that the free press is not the enemy. They are the voice of the people. They are the ones who bring us the news, both good and bad. They are the ones who hold those in power accountable. And most importantly, they are the ones who give us the power to make informed decisions.

In this digital age, where information is readily available at our fingertips, it is more important than ever to have a free and independent press. We must not take this freedom for granted. We must stand up and defend it.

It is our responsibility as citizens to support and protect the free press. We must demand transparency and accountability from our leaders. We must also be discerning consumers of news, fact-checking and verifying information before sharing it. We must not let ourselves be swayed by false narratives and propaganda.

We must also remember that the free press is not infallible. They are made up of human beings who are prone to mistakes. But that does not mean we should dismiss their entire existence. Instead, we should hold them to a high standard and encourage them to strive for accuracy and fairness.

The state of the free press may not be good at the moment, but we must not lose hope. We must continue to support and defend the press, for the sake of our democracy and our future. We must also remember that the power ultimately lies with us, the people. We have the power to demand change and hold those in power accountable.

In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.” Let us not allow the free press to be limited and lost. Let us stand together and defend our right to a free press. Because in doing so, we are defending our right to a free and democratic society.
