DA to take action after chaotic scenes erupt at the KZN Legislature

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Zwakele Rodgers, has promised swift action after chaotic scenes erupted at the KZN Legislature on Tuesday. The DA leader expressed his disappointment and concern over the events that unfolded during a sitting of the legislature, which saw members of the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) clash with security personnel.

The chaotic scenes began when EFF members demanded that Premier Sihle Zikalala be removed from the legislature, citing his alleged involvement in corruption and maladministration. The ANC members, on the other hand, were determined to protect the Premier and his reputation. This resulted in a heated exchange of words and physical altercations between the two parties.

In a statement released by the DA, Rodgers condemned the conduct of both the ANC and EFF members, stating that their behavior was unacceptable and a disgrace to the people of KwaZulu-Natal. He also expressed his disappointment in the leadership of the ANC for failing to maintain order and for allowing such chaos to unfold in the legislature.

Rodgers stated that the DA will not stand by and watch the province’s legislature descend into chaos and lawlessness. He assured the people of KZN that the DA will take decisive action to hold those responsible for the chaos accountable. He also promised to work closely with the Speaker of the legislature to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

The DA leader also called on all political parties to exercise restraint and respect the rules and procedures of the legislature. He emphasized the importance of allowing the democratic processes to take place without any disruptions or violence.

“We cannot allow our legislature to become a battleground for political parties. The people of KwaZulu-Natal deserve better and we will not let them down,” Rodgers said.

He also urged the Premier to address the allegations of corruption and maladministration against him, stating that the people of KZN deserve a leader who is transparent and accountable. He added that the DA will continue to hold the government accountable and will not hesitate to take action when necessary.

The chaotic scenes at the KZN legislature have once again highlighted the need for political parties to prioritize the well-being of the people they serve. The people of KZN have entrusted their leaders to represent them and make decisions that will benefit the province. It is, therefore, unacceptable for their elected representatives to engage in violent and disruptive behavior that goes against the principles of democracy.

In conclusion, the DA has made it clear that they will not tolerate any form of violence and disruptions in the legislature. They have promised to take action and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. The people of KwaZulu-Natal can rest assured that the DA will continue to fight for their best interests and ensure that their province is governed with integrity and accountability.
