Free America Walkout marks a year of resisting Trump

One year ago today, on January 20, 2021, Donald Trump was sworn in to his second term as President of the United States. It was a day that many feared would be a turning point in the country’s history, and sadly, it has proven to be just that. Over the past 365 days, Trump has unleashed an unprecedented attack on democracy, both within the United States and abroad. But, despite his efforts, people across the world have stood up in resistance. This is episode 85 of Stories of Resistance.

The past year has been a rollercoaster of emotions for Americans and people all around the world. From the very beginning of his second term, Trump has made it clear that he intends to push his own agenda, regardless of the impact on the nation and its citizens. His policies and actions have been met with fierce backlash and opposition, but he has shown no signs of backing down.

One of the key ways in which Trump has attacked democracy is through his use of executive power. In just one year, he has signed multiple executive orders that have rolled back important regulations and laws meant to protect the environment, healthcare, and human rights. He has also declared a national emergency in order to fund his controversial border wall, further eroding the separation of powers and the checks and balances that are the foundation of American democracy.

But perhaps the most concerning aspect of Trump’s presidency has been his constant attacks on the free press and the justice system. He has continuously labeled legitimate news sources as “fake news” and has tried to undermine the credibility of the media. He has also made it clear that he sees the Department of Justice as a tool to serve his own interests rather than the interests of the people. These actions are direct threats to the pillars of democracy – a free press and an independent judiciary.

However, even in the face of such attacks, the American people have shown remarkable resilience and determination to defend their rights and their country’s democracy. Protests and demonstrations have erupted all across the nation, with people from all walks of life joining together to voice their opposition to Trump’s policies. From the Women’s March to the student-led March for Our Lives, Americans have come out in droves to show that they will not be silenced or ignored.

But the resistance is not limited to just the United States. People from different countries and backgrounds have also joined in the fight against the erosion of democracy by Trump and his administration. From the #Resistance movement to the #MeToo movement, people from all over the world have shown solidarity and support for those fighting for justice and equality in the face of Trump’s harmful policies.

Despite the challenges and obstacles that have been thrown their way, the American people and their allies have remained vigilant and determined. Through their actions, they have proven that democracy is worth fighting for, and that the power truly lies in the hands of the people.

As we reflect on the past year under Trump’s second term, it is clear that the fight is far from over. But, we must also remember that it is in times of adversity that our true strength and resilience are revealed. And ultimately, it is the stories of resistance that will be remembered and celebrated as a testament to the power and determination of the people to protect and uphold democracy.

So let us continue to stand together, to speak out against injustice, and to resist any attempts to undermine our democracy. This is the only way we can ensure a brighter future for ourselves, our nation, and the world. Because as long as there are people who are willing to fight for what is right, there is still hope for a better tomorrow. This is episode 85 of Stories of Resistance – the episode where we celebrate the unwavering strength and courage of those who have stood up in the face of tyranny.
