Mariners star Cal Raleigh has recently found himself at the center of some controversy after a video of him seemingly snubbing teammate Randy Arozarena’s handshake at the World Baseball Classic (WBC) went viral. The incident sparked rumors of a “beef” between the two players, but Raleigh has now come forward to set the record straight.
In an exclusive interview with ESPN, Raleigh addressed the rumors head on, stating that there is no bad blood between him and Arozarena. “I have the utmost respect for Randy and all my teammates,” Raleigh said. “The WBC is a high-pressure tournament and emotions can run high, but there is no beef between us.”
The video in question shows Arozarena extending his hand for a handshake after a game, but Raleigh appears to ignore it and walk away. This led to speculation that there may be tension between the two players, especially since they are both vying for a spot on the Mariners’ starting lineup this season.
However, Raleigh explained that the incident was simply a misunderstanding. “I was caught up in the moment and didn’t even realize Randy was trying to shake my hand,” he said. “I would never intentionally snub a teammate, especially someone as talented and respected as Randy.”
Raleigh also emphasized that the Mariners have a strong team dynamic and any rumors of a rift between players are completely unfounded. “We have a great group of guys on this team and we all support each other,” he stated. “There is no room for drama or beef in our clubhouse.”
Teammate and Mariners’ veteran, Kyle Seager, also came to Raleigh’s defense, stating that the incident was blown out of proportion. “I was there when it happened and it was just a simple miscommunication,” Seager said. “Cal and Randy get along great and this whole thing has been blown out of proportion.”
The Mariners organization also released a statement in support of Raleigh, stating that they have full confidence in him as a player and a teammate. “Cal is a valuable member of our team and we have no concerns about his relationship with his teammates,” the statement read. “We are focused on the upcoming season and working together as a team to bring a championship to Seattle.”
Raleigh, who is known for his strong work ethic and positive attitude, has been a rising star in the Mariners organization. He was drafted in the third round of the 2018 MLB draft and has quickly made a name for himself with his impressive performance on the field.
As for Arozarena, he has also addressed the incident and confirmed that there is no bad blood between him and Raleigh. “We are both competitive players and we both want to win,” Arozarena said. “But at the end of the day, we are teammates and we support each other.”
The WBC handshake snub may have caused a stir in the media, but it is clear that there is no animosity between Raleigh and Arozarena. The Mariners are a tight-knit team and any rumors of a “beef” between players are simply unfounded. As they gear up for the upcoming season, Raleigh and Arozarena will continue to work together towards their shared goal of bringing a championship to Seattle.
