COPE calls on Ramaphosa to fire Police Minister Senzo Mchunu

The Congress of the People (COPE) has recently expressed their disappointment and concern over the actions of former KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Senzo Mchunu. In a statement released by the party, they have strongly condemned Mchunu’s decision to disband the Provincial Task Team (PKTT), stating that it shows poor judgment and a lack of accountability.

For those who may not be familiar with the PKTT, it was a team established by the African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal to address the ongoing political violence and killings in the province. The team was made up of various political leaders, including members of the ANC, COPE, and other political parties. Their main objective was to find solutions and bring an end to the violence that has plagued the province for years.

However, in a surprising move, Mchunu, who was the Premier at the time, decided to disband the PKTT without any consultation with the other members or stakeholders. This decision has been met with widespread criticism and has raised serious concerns about Mchunu’s leadership and commitment to finding a lasting solution to the violence in KwaZulu-Natal.

COPE has strongly condemned Mchunu’s actions, stating that it shows a lack of accountability and responsibility. The party believes that Mchunu’s decision was made without considering the consequences and without any regard for the efforts and progress made by the PKTT. This move has not only undermined the work of the team but has also put the lives of the people of KwaZulu-Natal at risk.

In their statement, COPE has also highlighted the fact that Mchunu’s actions have caused a setback in the efforts to bring peace and stability to the province. The disbandment of the PKTT has left a void in the fight against political violence, and it is a step in the wrong direction. COPE has called on Mchunu to take full responsibility for his actions and to be held accountable for the consequences.

It is evident that Mchunu’s decision was made without proper consultation and without considering the views of the other members of the PKTT. This not only shows a lack of leadership but also a lack of respect for the opinions and efforts of others. COPE believes that this is not the kind of leadership that the people of KwaZulu-Natal deserve.

The party has also raised concerns about the timing of Mchunu’s decision. With the upcoming local government elections, the disbandment of the PKTT has raised questions about the motives behind this move. COPE believes that this decision was made to gain political advantage and to undermine the efforts of other political parties in the province.

In conclusion, COPE has called on Mchunu to reconsider his decision and to reinstate the PKTT. The party believes that the team has made significant progress in addressing the political violence in KwaZulu-Natal, and their work should not be disregarded. COPE has also urged Mchunu to consult with all stakeholders and to work together in finding a lasting solution to the ongoing violence in the province.

It is time for our leaders to show accountability and responsibility in their actions. The people of KwaZulu-Natal deserve leaders who are committed to finding solutions and bringing an end to the violence that has claimed too many lives. COPE remains committed to working towards a peaceful and stable province, and we call on all political parties to join us in this fight. Let us put aside our political differences and work together for the betterment of our people.
