Abby Martin: The US military is ‘Earth’s greatest enemy’

“We are in the imperial core. We are the only ones that can actually change this. The rest of the world’s been ready. They are waiting for us because they don’t want to fucking die at the hands of our insane, belligerent military empire.”

These powerful words were spoken by activist and author, Chris Hedges, during a speech at the University of Connecticut in 2014. They serve as a reminder to us, the citizens of the imperial core, that we hold the power to change the course of our nation and the world.

The term “imperial core” refers to the countries that hold the most economic and military power in the world. In this case, it is the United States, a nation that has been at the forefront of global politics for decades. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and unfortunately, the US has not always lived up to this responsibility.

The US has a long history of interventionist policies, often using military force to further its own interests. This has resulted in countless innocent lives lost, destruction of communities and cultures, and a perpetuation of violence and conflict. The US military empire has caused immense suffering and instability around the world, and it is time for us to take a stand and change this destructive course.

As citizens of the imperial core, we have a unique position of privilege and power. We have the ability to influence the decisions and actions of our government, and it is our responsibility to use this power for the greater good. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the atrocities committed in our name. We must hold our leaders accountable and demand a change in our foreign policies.

The rest of the world has been ready for this change for a long time. They have been waiting for us to step up and take action because they know that our actions have a global impact. They do not want to suffer the consequences of our government’s reckless and aggressive actions. They do not want to die at the hands of our military empire.

It is time for us to listen to the voices of the oppressed and marginalized communities around the world. It is time for us to acknowledge the harm that our nation has caused and take responsibility for it. It is time for us to stand in solidarity with those who have been affected by our government’s actions and work towards a more just and peaceful world.

But change will not come easy. It will require us to challenge the status quo and push back against the powerful forces that benefit from the current system. It will require us to educate ourselves and others about the realities of our nation’s actions and the impact they have on the world. It will require us to use our voices and our votes to demand change.

We must also recognize that the change we seek is not just limited to our foreign policies. It also includes addressing the systemic issues within our own country, such as racism, poverty, and inequality. These issues are interconnected and cannot be solved in isolation. We must work towards a more just and equitable society at home in order to truly make a positive impact on the world.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed and hopeless in the face of such daunting challenges. But we must remember that we are not alone in this fight. There are countless individuals and organizations working towards a better world, and we must join forces with them. Together, we can create a powerful movement for change and make a difference in the world.

So let us heed the words of Chris Hedges and recognize the power we hold as citizens of the imperial core. Let us use this power to bring about a more peaceful and just world for all. The rest of the world is waiting for us, and we cannot let them down. The time for change is now.
