Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has reportedly claimed that the African National Congress (ANC) is trying to intimidate his party by threatening to take a ward from them. This comes as tensions between the two parties continue to rise ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking at a rally in Mpumalanga on Saturday, Malema told his supporters that the ANC was feeling threatened by the EFF’s growing support in the province. He alleged that the ruling party was resorting to dirty tactics in order to try and maintain their hold on power.
“The ANC is panicking because they see that we are gaining ground in Mpumalanga. They are now trying to intimidate us by threatening to take away one of our wards. But we are not afraid, we are ready for them,” Malema said to cheers from the crowd.
The EFF leader further went on to claim that the ANC was using its influence and power to try and sway the voters in their favor. He urged his supporters to remain vigilant and not be swayed by the ANC’s tactics.
“We know that the ANC is using their money and power to try and buy votes. But we have something that they don’t have – we have the people on our side. And with the people’s support, we will not be intimidated,” Malema stated.
The EFF has been gaining momentum in the province of Mpumalanga, often referred to as the stronghold of the ANC. In the 2019 national elections, the EFF managed to secure 14.7% of the vote, a significant increase from the 4.7% they received in the 2014 elections.
This has clearly caused concern for the ANC, who have been in control of the province since the dawn of democracy in 1994. With the EFF’s popularity on the rise, it seems that the ANC is feeling the pressure and is resorting to desperate measures.
However, despite the allegations and threats from the ANC, Malema reassured his supporters that the EFF was not going to back down. He reminded them that the party was built on the values of fearlessness and standing up against injustice.
“We will not be intimidated by anyone, especially not the ANC. We are here to fight for the rights of the people and we will not back down. We will continue to expose the corruption and incompetence of the ANC and offer a better alternative for the people of Mpumalanga,” Malema stated.
The EFF has been known for its strong stance against corruption and its commitment to bring about real change for the people. This has resonated with many South Africans, especially the youth, who have become disillusioned with the ANC’s broken promises and increasing corruption.
In the face of these threats and challenges, the EFF remains determined to continue their fight for the people. Malema’s message to his supporters was clear – stand strong and united, and together we can bring about real change in our country.
In conclusion, it is evident that the ANC is feeling the heat from the EFF’s rising popularity. The allegations and threats made by Malema only serve to show that the EFF is becoming a real force to be reckoned with in South African politics. The upcoming local government elections will be a true test for both parties, but one thing is certain – the EFF will not back down in their fight for economic freedom for all.
