Deputy President Paul Mashatile delivered a moving eulogy at the funeral of the late National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Chairperson, Mninwa Mahlangu. The ceremony was held at the Tshwane Events Centre on Sunday and was attended by a multitude of dignitaries, including President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In his eulogy, Deputy President Mashatile spoke fondly of the late Mr. Mahlangu, describing him as a true leader and a dedicated public servant. He highlighted Mr. Mahlangu’s contributions to the country and his commitment to the ideals of democracy and service to the people.
“Today, we mourn the loss of a great leader, a man who dedicated his life to the service of our nation. Mninwa Mahlangu was a true patriot, a man of integrity and compassion,” said Deputy President Mashatile.
He went on to commend Mr. Mahlangu’s work in the NCOP, where he served as Chairperson since 2016. The Deputy President noted that Mr. Mahlangu was a strong advocate for the people of South Africa and always fought for their interests and rights.
“Under his leadership, the NCOP played a crucial role in promoting social cohesion and advancing the interests of our people. He was a champion for the marginalized and vulnerable and ensured that their voices were heard in the highest decision-making body of our country,” Deputy President Mashatile stated.
The Deputy President also spoke about Mr. Mahlangu’s role in the struggle against apartheid, highlighting his unwavering commitment to the liberation of South Africa. He praised Mr. Mahlangu’s bravery and resilience in the face of adversity, noting that he remained steadfast in his beliefs and principles throughout his life.
“Mninwa Mahlangu was a freedom fighter, a hero who dedicated his life to the struggle for democracy and equality in our country. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come,” Deputy President Mashatile said.
Furthermore, the Deputy President emphasized Mr. Mahlangu’s role as a bridge-builder and peacemaker. He noted that Mr. Mahlangu always sought to find common ground and promote unity, even in the most difficult of times.
“As we bid farewell to our dear comrade, we must remember his message of unity and reconciliation. He taught us that in order to move forward as a nation, we must work together and embrace our diversity,” said Deputy President Mashatile.
