Approval for President Trump’s handling of the Gaza conflict has seen a significant increase over the past month, according to a new poll released by Quinnipiac University on Wednesday. The survey, which interviewed registered voters across the country, showed that 47 percent of respondents approve of the way Trump is handling the ongoing crisis, while 41 percent disapprove.
These numbers reflect a notable shift from a similar poll conducted in May, where only 39 percent of voters approved of Trump’s handling of the conflict and 50 percent disapproved. This recent surge in approval comes as the Trump administration continues to work towards maintaining a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the militant group controlling the Gaza Strip.
The poll also revealed that a majority of Republican voters (79 percent) approve of Trump’s handling of the conflict, while only 10 percent disapprove. Among Democratic voters, 14 percent approve and 74 percent disapprove, while 45 percent of independent voters approve and 41 percent disapprove.
The rise in approval for Trump’s handling of the Gaza conflict can be attributed to the administration’s efforts in maintaining the ceasefire, which was brokered by Egypt and the United Nations in May. The ceasefire ended 11 days of intense fighting between Israel and Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of over 250 Palestinians and 12 Israelis.
Since then, the Trump administration has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to ensure that the ceasefire remains in place. This includes sending a high-level delegation to the region, led by Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, Victoria Coates. The delegation met with officials from both Israel and the Palestinian Authority, as well as representatives from Egypt and the UN.
In addition, the Trump administration has also pledged to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, who have been severely impacted by the recent conflict. This aid includes $5 million in immediate assistance and plans for a long-term economic development plan for the region.
The administration’s efforts have been met with praise from both sides of the political spectrum. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been a vocal supporter of the Trump administration’s policies in the Middle East, commended the president’s handling of the Gaza crisis, saying, “I think the Trump administration deserves credit for stopping the violence and creating a pathway forward.”
On the other hand, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, who has been critical of Trump’s policies in the region, also acknowledged the administration’s role in maintaining the ceasefire, stating, “I think the Trump administration has done a pretty good job of trying to keep the ceasefire in place.”
The Quinnipiac University poll also showed that a majority of voters (57 percent) believe that the US should play a more active role in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while only 26 percent think the US should take a less active role. This sentiment is shared across party lines, with 67 percent of Democrats, 52 percent of independents, and 45 percent of Republicans believing that the US should play a more active role.
Overall, the increase in approval for Trump’s handling of the Gaza conflict is a positive sign for the administration, as it reflects the success of their efforts in maintaining the ceasefire and working towards a long-term solution for the region. As the situation in Gaza continues to evolve, it is crucial for the US to remain actively engaged in finding a peaceful resolution for all parties involved.
