Getting Around Chicago and The Suburbs This Weekend and Beyond
If you’re planning a trip to or around the Chicago area this weekend, chances are you’ll be hitting the road to explore the city – or the suburbs. Here’s what you need to know before you go.
Friday, Dec. 8
IDOT is disrupting traffic overnight for the next several days on the inbound Kennedy Expressway as it works on a days-long re-opening process after nine months of bridge rehab. To safely remove barricades and mark new paths, overnight lane and ramp closures will be put into effect. However, rest assured – at least one inbound lane will remain open at all times.
Saturday, Dec. 9
The St. Louis Blues will be taking on the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center at 7p.m. – a perfect way to spend a Saturday night in the Windy City. It’s sure to be an exciting match and a great way to get the weekend started.
Sunday, Dec. 10
The Chicago Bears will be back at their home stadium – Soldier Field. They’ll take on the Detroit Lions at noon, making it the perfect family outing for any Chicago sports fan. In addition, the CTA will be offering the #128 Soldier Field Express bus route from the downtown Metra stations for easy access. After the game, why not catch the Hawks take on the Ducks at the United Center at 6 p.m.?
Down the Road
By the morning commute on Tuesday, Dec. 12, IDOT plans to have all four inbound lanes of the Kennedy Expressway between Montrose and Ohio open for drivers. Commuters can expect to be able to drive without disruptions for the next few months, as the second phase of the bridge rehab won’t begin until spring next year.
