Democratic veteran goes after ‘chickenhawks’ promoting Iran strikes

Rep. Pat Ryan (D-N.Y.) is not one to mince words when it comes to calling out hypocrisy and bravado in politics. On Wednesday, he took aim at a group of Republican leaders who have been promoting a tough stance on the Iran conflict without ever having served in the Armed Forces themselves.

In a passionate speech on the House floor, Rep. Ryan called out these “chickenhawks” who have never put on a uniform or experienced the sacrifices and realities of military service. He specifically called out those who are sitting in their “gold-plated offices” in Washington D.C., or lounging in luxury at Mar-a-Lago, while advocating for a potential war with Iran.

It’s a powerful and necessary message in a time when the drums of war are beating louder and louder. As tensions with Iran continue to escalate, it’s important to remember the consequences of military action and the weight of sending our brave men and women into harm’s way.

Rep. Ryan himself is no stranger to the sacrifices of military service. He is a West Point graduate and served two tours in Iraq as an Army officer. He knows firsthand the toll that war takes on individuals, families, and communities.

That’s why his words carry so much weight. He understands the gravity of the situation and the impact it will have on the lives of those who serve. And he’s not afraid to call out those who are quick to talk tough but have never walked the walk.

It’s easy to sit in a comfortable office or a luxurious resort and make decisions that will affect the lives of others. But it takes true courage and integrity to have actually served and experienced the realities of war.

Rep. Ryan’s message is a reminder that we must hold our leaders accountable and demand that they have the necessary experience and understanding before making decisions that could lead us into another costly and devastating conflict.

He also highlighted the importance of listening to and valuing the opinions of those who have served. Their voices and perspectives are crucial in any discussion about military action.

It’s not just about politics or party lines. It’s about the lives of our service members and their families. It’s about the impact on our country and the world. And it’s about making informed and responsible decisions that will have long-lasting consequences.

Rep. Ryan’s words serve as a call to action for all of us. We must demand that our leaders have the necessary experience and understanding before making decisions that could lead us down a dangerous path.

We must also remember to honor and support our service members, both past and present, who have selflessly put their lives on the line for our country. They are the true heroes, and their voices and experiences must be heard and valued.

In these uncertain times, it’s important to have leaders like Rep. Ryan who are not afraid to speak truth to power and hold others accountable. Let’s heed his message and work towards a more peaceful and just world.
