ANCYL demands young leaders in Panyaza Lesufi’s cabinet

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has been at the forefront of fighting for the rights and interests of the youth in South Africa. However, recent events have caused concern within the organization, as the ANCYL has expressed its disappointment with the selection of Nkululeko Dunga as the new Gauteng Education MEC by Panyaza Lesufi. The ANCYL has accused Lesufi of sidelining the youth and disregarding party rules in the selection process.

In a statement released by the ANCYL, they expressed their dissatisfaction with Lesufi’s decision to appoint Dunga, stating that it goes against the party’s commitment to promoting youth empowerment and representation. The ANCYL believes that the Gauteng Education Department should have been led by a young person, as this would have provided an opportunity for the youth to gain valuable experience and contribute to the development of education in the province.

The ANCYL has also raised concerns about the selection process, stating that party rules were not followed. According to the ANCYL, the party’s constitution states that the ANCYL Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) should be consulted in the selection of candidates for government positions. However, in this instance, it is alleged that the ANCYL PEC was not consulted, and the decision was made solely by Lesufi.

Furthermore, the ANCYL has expressed concerns about Dunga’s lack of experience in the education sector, stating that it is crucial to have someone with a solid background in education to lead the department. The ANCYL believes that the education sector is critical, and any decision regarding the leadership of the department should not be taken lightly.

However, despite these concerns, it is essential to note that the ANCYL remains fully committed to the ideals of the African National Congress (ANC) and will continue to support the party and its leaders. The ANCYL has stated that it will engage with Lesufi and the ANC leadership to find an amicable solution to the issue.

In response to the ANCYL’s statement, Lesufi has defended his decision, stating that Dunga’s appointment was based on his qualifications, experience, and proven track record in various government positions. Lesufi also stated that the ANC’s principles of non-sexism and non-ageism were considered in the selection process, and Dunga was the best candidate for the position.

Furthermore, Lesufi has assured the ANCYL and the public that Dunga’s lack of experience in education will not hinder his ability to lead the department effectively. He believes that Dunga’s passion for education and his commitment to serving the people of Gauteng will make him an excellent MEC for education in the province.

As the ANCYL, we understand that there will always be differing opinions and views, even within our own organization. However, it is crucial to remember that we are all working towards the same goal of a better South Africa for all. Therefore, it is essential to address any concerns or issues through open and constructive dialogue, rather than public statements that could potentially harm the unity of the ANC.

In conclusion, while the ANCYL has expressed its concerns about the selection of Nkululeko Dunga as the new Gauteng Education MEC, we remain committed to working together with the ANC leadership to find a solution that will benefit the youth and the education sector in the province. We urge all members of the ANC to adhere to the party’s rules and principles and work towards the common goal of a prosperous South Africa. Let us continue to work together in unity and solidarity towards a better future for all.
